A Pakistan Muslim League (PML) leader has threatened New Delhi, saying Islamabad would back Dhaka if anyone attacks its autonomy.

PML leader Kamran Saeed Usmani said, "If India attacks Bangladesh’s autonomy, if anyone dares to look at Bangladesh with ill intent, then remember that the people of Pakistan, the Pakistani armed forces, and our missiles are not far away."

He said Pakistan would not allow to push Dhaka into New Delhi's ideological dominance and reject any attempts to impose "Akhand Bharat ideology" on the eastern neighbour.

Usmani went on to claim that the Border Security Force is "disturbing" Bangladesh as he sought a security alliance between Islamabad and Dhaka. He further said that both Pakistan and Bangladesh should set up military bases in each other's territory. He alleged that Pakistan, in the past, forced India into a difficult position and would do it again if the need arises.

Painting a potential three-front war against India, Usmani said if Pakistan and Bangladesh attacks from the west and east respectively, China could focus on Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh.

This comes as hundreds of people staged demonstration near Bangladesh's High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday, protesting the lynching of a Hindu man over allegations of blasphemy.

Amid tensions between the two countries and Dhaka's concerns over the security of Bangladeshi missions in the country, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, was on Tuesday summoned to Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Sources said Verma was requested to strengthen security for Bangladesh missions in various parts of the country, including New Delhi, Siliguri and Agartala.
