The Maharashtra Police on Friday received a message from an unknown person, claiming to be from the terror group Lashkar-e-Jihadi, threatening to blow up the city. The person claimed there were  34 “human bombs” carrying “400 kg of RDX” in 34 vehicles, according to reports. The threat was received on the traffic police helpline, but it is unclear whether it was a WhatsApp message or a phone call.

The caller added that 14 Pakistani terrorists have infiltrated into India, according to local media reports. Following the threat, security has been beefed up across the state.

There is no official statement from the authorities on this. Such calls are not isolated incidents. Earlier this week, a  43-year-old man was arrested for issuing a false threat to blow up a railway station in Maharashtra's Thane district. The accused, identified as Rupesh Madhukar Ranpise, called the police helpline number at around 4 pm on Sunday and said that he had planted a bomb at Kalwa railway station, Government Railway Police (GRP) said.

Earlier last month, the Navi Mumbai police had registered an FIR in connection with the threat of bombing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in the metropolis. The caller said that a bomb had been placed on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight. Police had further said that a second call said that the Mumbai International Airport would be blown up at 6:30 pm. However, nothing suspicious was found in the investigation.
