In view of the red and orange alerts issued for most of the state, Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the government and district-level officers to take extra caution and remain on 24x7 alert.
At consecutive meetings on Sunday and Monday, CM Dhami said that due to excessive rainfall, the state was facing continuous challenges.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the coming few days are also going to be challenging. He directed officers to take appropriate steps for the safety of the common citizens.
In case of landslides, special vigilance should be maintained at the roads. All precautionary steps should also be taken in view of the possibility of waterlogging in the plains, he said.

The Secretary for Disaster Management and Rehabilitation will keep an eye on every situation from the State Emergency Operations Centre.
On Sunday, the CM took stock of the relief and rescue operations and gave necessary guidelines.
Recognising that disasters and their aftermath were emotionally charged, he explained that the government stood firmly with those who had been rendered homeless due to the disasters. Work is on at every level for their best possible rehabilitation, he noted.
Dhami directed both the state's Divisional Commissioners to work expeditiously for the rehabilitation of the disaster-affected and also work on the options for rehabilitation in the plain districts.
The CM said that his government understood the pain of those affected. The government will not only provide financial assistance, but will also be empathetic to feelings and sensitivities. He added that officials must consider the grief of the affected as their own and work with full dedication towards restoring normalcy.
All district-level officers have been asked to remain in the field and conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing.
The CM was also debriefed by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials about the bridge washed away in the Tamak drain in the Jyotirmath-Malari National Highway. This is a bridge of strategic importance.
Dhami instructed that a Bailey bridge be built as soon as possible. The state's Public Works Department will provide the BRO with all possible help.
Another key instruction was to make the Gangotri Highway safe and keep it in optimal condition for the Char Dham Yatra. Dhami said that pilgrims from all over the country would be able to come for the Char Dham Yatra with complete confidence that the journey would be safe. He also warned that no laxity would be forgiven.
Post the rains, the state will start work on patchwork and construction of new roads. Till that can be started, tenders and other formalities are to be completed.
As regards the condition and drainage of lakes built in Harshil and Syanachatti of Uttarkashi, there have been reports of a rise in the water level of the lakes, especially in Syanachatti.
Dhami directed that there should be 24x7 monitoring, and relief and rescue teams should be ready for deployment at all times.
It should also be ensured that there is no danger to the bridge. Efforts are to be made to reduce the water level of the lake by draining it.
The CM directed that the needs of the people of Syanachatti be met, especially in the case of electricity and water availability.
Debris accumulated in Harshil and Syanachatti is to be removed on priority. Mud disposal sites have to be created in safe places. The CM asked for proposals for the same.
In addition, the water level of rivers is to be monitored even at night in hilly and plain areas over the next few days as the weather is expected to be adverse. Early warning systems have to be in place so that people can be alerted in case of danger, and protective steps taken.
