Kerala police's Crime Branch has registered a case against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil, who is facing sexual misconduct allegations from multiple women, according to Manorama Online.
The development comes hours after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said legal actions will be taken against the tainted MLA, adding that his alleged threat to kill one of the victims show "criminal tendencies. The CM was referring to a leaked audio clip in which he persuades a woman to undergo abortion and threatens to kill her if she fails to do so.

He said public representatives should uphold dignity and morality, saying controversies of this nature are unprecedented.
The CM expressed hope that the controversy ends with one person and does not involve anyone else, adding that whatever action required legally will be taken.
None of the women who raised allegations against Rahul have filed a formal complaint with the police. Hence, police initially refused to take action. But later, top police officials sought legal advice before deciding to register a case.

The Congress has suspended Rahul's primary membership in the party days after he resigned from the post of Youth Congress state president. Rahul is no longer a member of the Congress parliamentary party. It has been reported that the party has denied him a ticket in the upcoming assembly elections in 2026.
Malayalam actor and journalist Rini Ann George was the first one to raise allegations about sexting against a young politician. However, she declined to name the person. She claimed that she came forward after learning about harassment faced by other women.
Malayalam writer Honey Bhaskaran accused Rahul of obscene conduct and making derogatory remarks about her to his peers.
Avanthika Vishnu, a trans woman, alleged that Rahul sent her messages about his rape fantasies and asked her to meet him in Bengaluru or Hyderabad. However, Anna Raju, the state secretary of Transgender Congress, who was a roommate of Avanthika, said her allegations are politically motivated and that BJP leaders made her raise false claims.
