A man died after falling into a water-filled quarry while an inundated bridge in Kalyan area was closed after heavy rains lashed Maharashtra's Thane district.

Monorail services have resumed after the incident last night, wherein the Monorail train (RST-4) got stuck between Bhakti Park and Chembur, near Mysore Colony station in Mumbai. About 582 passengers onboard were rescued.

Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall over the past 21 hours, with some suburbs receiving more than 200 mm of rain.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) says all passengers of the Monorail train stalled between Bhakti Park and Chembur, near Mysore Colony station in Mumbai, have been safely rescued

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the monorail train stuck between Chembur and Bhakti Park was overloaded due to excessive crowds. "On a curve, there was a mechanical disconnect of electric current. After that, emergency brake was deployed, hence the rake stopped working," he told NDTV.

A total of 582 passengers were rescued from the monorail train that was stuck between Chembur and Bhakti Park. Around 200 passengers were also rescued from another monorail train stranded between Acharya Atre and Wadala stations.

Shiv Sena leader Rahul Shewale says, "There were some technical shortcomings that we had already highlighted. However, unfortunately, those were not addressed. Had they been addressed, this tragedy could have been averted."
