The Indian Meteorological Department has extended its warning against venturing into the Bay of Bengal for fishermen off the South Tamil Nadu coast till August 18. The weather agency has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in the state till August 19.
As per a bulletin from the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall has been forecast over Tamil Nadu, Karaikkal and Puducherry during the week. "Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the following areas from August 13-18: Along and off Sri Lanka coast during 13th to 18th August, over most parts of south Bay of Bengal during 13th to 16th August, over most parts of central Bay of Bengal during 13th to 17th August, along and off Andhra Pradesh coast, Odisha coasts during 15th to 17th August north Andhra Pradesh coasts during 13th to 15th August; and over few parts of north Bay of Bengal during 13th to 17th August; over Gulf of Mannar and along and off south Tamil Nadu coast during 13th to 18th August; over Andaman Sea during 13th to 16th August," it said.

According to the weather report from the regional centre in Chennai, on Wednesday, the southwest monsoon was vigorous over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and active over north interior Karnataka and Telangana.
