The CID (Security) wing of Rajasthan Police arrested a man from Jaisalmer on Tuesday for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, and leaking confidential and strategic information.
The accused, identified as Mahendra Prasad (32), was a contractual manager of a guest house of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at the Chandan Field Firing Range.
A resident of Palyun, Almora in Uttarakhand, Prasad was arrested on charges of espionage under the Official Secrets Act 1923. He will be produced before a court on Wednesday.
Inspector General of Police CID (Security) Dr. Vishnukant said, keeping in mind the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, the police had intensified surveillance to prevent any possible anti-national and subversive activities by foreign agents.

During this monitoring, it was found that Prasad was in contact with the Pakistani intelligence agency through social media and was providing confidential information related to the movement of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officers, who come to the Firing Range for missile and other weapons testing, to Pakistani handlers.
Prasad’s mobile phone was subjected to technical analysis, and it was confirmed that the accused had also shared sensitive information related to DRDO operations and Indian Army activities with his Pakistani handlers.
Police are now trying to assess the extent of the security breach and find out if any others are also involved in the network.
