Weeks after Yemen's Houthi government postponed the death sentence of Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, who has been on death row in a murder case, the victim's family has urged the court to carry out the execution immediately.
Nimisha Priya, who was convicted of murdering Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017 was sentenced to death in 2020. She was scheduled to be executed on July 16. However, intervention from the Indian government has reportedly led the authorities to postpone the execution.
In a letter to Yemen Attorney General Judge Abdul Salam Al-Houthi on Sunday, Talal's brother Abdul Fattah Mahdi urged the bench to immediately execute Nimisha.
"We categorically reject all attempts at reconciliation," said the letter, noting that new execution date has not been announced more than a month after the postponement.

"We affirm our full adherence to our legitimate right to implement the retaliation sentence," Abdul added.
The latest letter comes more than a week after Abdul sent a similar letter on July 25, seeking a new execution date. In the letter, Talal's brother slammed misleading reports that appeared on Indian media and rejected claims about Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar's statement on revocation of Nimisha Priya's death sentence.
"Talal's blood will not be a commodity in the negotiation bazaar," he wrote.
The Kerala nurse had set up a clinic in Sana'a in 2015 under Talal's sponsorship. Later, Talal allegedly forged marriage documents to show that they were married and took her passport. He allegedly abused the woman physically and mentally.
Nimisha drugged Talal in a bid to get her passport back and escape captivity, but he died of overdose. She hid his body in a water tank before fleeing. The authorities nabbed her at the Saudi border.
