Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ming on Monday expressed that Beijing is ready to discuss delimitation of India's border with China. However, she pointed out that the situation is complicated and would take time to reach a resolution.

She added that India and China have set up a mechanism for their special representatives to discuss the boundary issue, adding that both countries have reached an agreement on the political guiding principles to resolve the long-standing border dispute.

"We are willing to work with the Indian side to maintain communication on issues such as demarcation talks and border management and control, jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the border areas, and promote cross-border exchanges and cooperation between the two countries," Ming added.

This comes after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, during a June 26 meeting with his Chinese counterpart Dong Jun, suggested that New Delhi and Beijing should look to resolve "complex issues" under a structured roadmap. They met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's (SCO) defence summit in Qingdao, China.

Singh proposed that both countries should stick to the 2024 disengagement pact inked in October to address issues in Ladakh's Demchok and Depsang. He also urged Beijing to de-escalate tensions along the Line of Actual Control.

The defence minister called for a permanent solution of delimiting border through existing mechanism in place. Singh also highlighted that creating good neighbourly conditions can help achieve the "best mutual benefits".
