Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was arrested from Ghazipur for her husband's murder in Meghalaya, has told the police that she was not behind the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi and was actually the victim, according to reports. The newlyweds were visiting Cherrapunjee for their honeymoon.

Sonam said she was abducted from Meghalaya during the couple's honeymoon trip and later abandoned in Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, reports News18. She said she called her brother from Ghazipur, following which she was arrested by police.

A staffer at the eatery where she was discovered said Sonam arrived in the wee hours on June 8 and she was seen crying. She asked him for a phone to contact her brother and inform him about her whereabouts.

Police had earlier said Sonam and her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha planned the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, for which they hired three men. They arrested Akash Rajput, 19, from UP's Lalitpur, Indore-based Vishal Singh Chauhan, 22, and one Anand from Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh.

Sonam's family has denied claims that she was involved in her husband's murder and sought a CBI probe into the case.

One of the tourist guides in Meghalaya informed police that Sonam and her husband Raja were seen with three other men on May 23. The couple was last found checking out of Balaji Homestay and a scooter rented by the couple was found abandoned at Sohrarim on May 24. Later, Raja was found dead in a gorge in Riat Arliang on June 2. Police have recovered a machete used to murder the man.
