Mahua Moitra, two-time Krishnagar MP, recently tied the knot with Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Pinaki Misra. Word of the marriage, which sources say happened on May 30, was kept under the wraps and came as a surprise to even many members of her own party, the All India Trinamool Congress.
Mahua Moitra, 50, is known for her fiery and impassioned speeches such as her address on the “seven signs of fascism” and has drawn both praise and criticism for her outspokenness. She was recently seen in a photograph with Misra, holding each others hands as they dazzled in their wedding gear.
Who is Pinaki Misra?
Misra, who is a law graduate of Delhi University, served as a Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court of India. He later entered politics and the Parliament in 1996 from Puri on Congress ticket. A decade later in 2009, Misra joined the BJD, returning to Lok Sabha and served three terms as MP till 2019. He then stepped back from politics before the 2024 elections. He has a son and daughter from his first marriage.

The marriage has sparked conversation as it adds to their seasoned and distinctive roles in politics.
Mahua Moitra’s career
Mahua was expelled from the Lok Sabha in 2023 after the Parliamentary ethics committee asked for her dismissal. Her expulsion came after allegations were made of her sharing her login credentials for the NIC portal and accepting bribes from a businessman who asked questions about the Adani group.
Mahua’s journey in politics took off after she contested and won the West Bengal Assembly elections from Karimpur in 2016. Three years later, she had won the elections from Krishnagar, West Bengal.
She was previously married to Danish Financier Lars Brorson which ended in a divorce. She was later in a relationship with Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai for three years, which she described as "jilted," The comments had prompted a defamation suit against her from Dehradai, which he later withdrew.
