West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Monday alleged that the Trinamool Congress government is adding fake voters to the electoral rolls in exchange for cash. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party was including Rohingyas in the voter list across districts, he said.

“In Kakdwip, the Trinamool has added the names of Rohingyas to the voter list in exchange for ₹10,000,” LoP Adhikari told the media at the election commission office where he led a delegation of 40 BJP leaders to complain against the state police.

“This is not limited to Kakdwip. Similar activities are being carried out across districts using the administration to insert fake names into the voter rolls. We demand a CBI investigation into the fake voter list case in Kakdwip,” he added.

The BJP leader, who was joined by party leaders Shankar Ghosh, Tapas Roy, Arjun Singh, Kaustav Bagchi among others, demanded a CBI probe into the Kakdwip case and an FIR against Chief Minister Banerjee who is also the state’s home minister.

Calling it a national issue, he urged the election commission, which is an autonomous body, to act on its own. “Unlike the previous two occasions [in 2016 and 2021, this time I won’t let Trinamool win again through manipulation.”

He was also seen talking about the violence that erupted in some parts of Murshidabad district last month. Citing the Calcutta High Court-appointed committee report, the Nandigram MLA alleged that during the violence the police in Murshidabad’a Dhulian and Samserganj didn’t respond to calls from Hindus for two days.

“Everyone knows what will happen if such police are tasked with conducting elections. That’s why I’m here—to demand that state police not be used in any part of the election process,” he told the media.

He further alleged that the state government would begin transferring police officials ahead of next year’s assembly elections to serve the interests of the TMC. He called on the election commission to closely monitor the process and ensure that the ruling party does not gain any unfair advantage.
