Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired some important meetings with the Union Cabinet, which included meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) and the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA).
Wednesday's CCS huddle will be the second meeting since the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed lives of 26 people.

The first CCS meeting was convened on April 23, following which the Centre decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, shut the Attari border and revoked Pakistani visas.
Unlike the CCS meeting, the CCPA meeting assumes significance as the panel was lat convencd in 2019 following the Pulwama terror attack. The cabinet back then removed Pakistan's "Most Favoured Nation" status for trade. Within days, the Indian Air Force conducted air strikes in Pakistan’s Balakot on February 26, 2019.
The members of the CCPA include PM Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. The latest meeting will assess the security situation and discuss retaliatory measures against the perpetrators.
CCPA is also said to have discussed the Opposition leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi's request for a special Parliament session to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack.
Modi last week vowed that India will "identify, track, and punish" every terrorist and their "backers" involved in the Pahalgam terror attack.
On the other hand, Pakistani troops have resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir. In retaliation, Indian forces have 'responded effectively', according to officials.
