The Delhi-NCR region will be relieved from the heatwave for a couple of days as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall.
According to a weather forecast, Delhi and neighbouring regions are likely to witness cloudy skies on April 10 (Thursday) and 11 (Friday). "Very heavy rain/drizzle accompanied by thunderstorm and gust winds" are to be expected on both days. The forecast claimed that wind speeds may touch 40 kilometres per hour on these days.
The weather department has predicted that the maximum temperature in Delhi on April 10 to be between 38 to 40 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature should be 24 to 26 degrees Celsius. On April 11 and 12, the maximum temperature in the national capital is predicted to be 36 to 38 degrees Celsius. On April 11, the minimum temperature in Delhi will be 23 to 25 degrees while on April 12 (Saturday), it is expected to be between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius.
However, Delhiites shouldn't expect any more rain as the week progresses although they are highly unlikely to be troubled by heatwaves for the rest of the week.
Delhi on Wednesday recorded its highest minimum temperature in April in three years, with the mercury settling at 25.6 degrees Celsius, 5.6 degrees above normal. In both 2024 and 2023, the minimum temperature had not touched 25 degrees Celsius, according to the weather department. The highest minimum temperature in 2024 was 24 degrees Celsius, while in 2023, it was 23.6 degrees, the data shows.
