Himachal: Six killed as tree falls on vehicles after landslide in Kullu

Medical teams, police and revenue officials are present at the spot and a rescue and relief operation is currently underway.

Six people died and several others were injured after a huge tree got uprooted and fell on vehicles parked on the road in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.

The mishap took place near Gurudwara Manikarn Sahib when the tree on a mountain got uprooted after storm and landslide.

Medical teams, police and revenue officials are present at the spot and a rescue and relief operation is currently underway.

Those injured have been shifted to Jari Hospital for treatment.

“Near the Manikaran Gurudwara, a tree was uprooted. Dead bodies are being brought to the district hospital. Four injured have been brought to the district hospital. Police administration is present at the site,” Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur told ANI.

Singh said three of the six victims have been identified so far.

"Two people were locals, and four were from outside. A few others have also been affected by the incident,” he claimed.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the district administration to extend all possible help to the victims and their families.

However, videos of the tragic incident are being shared on social media platforms in which people are heard saying that no help reached the spot in the first hour.

Earlier this week, the Meteorological Department had issued a yellow warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) in the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi.
