Shocking details of the Meerut murder, wherein a woman killed her husband with her lover's help, reveal that she tried to dispose of the concrete drum containing the victim's body but failed as it was too heavy, even for four labourers.

According to Meerut Police, Muskaan Rastogi murdered her husband Saurabh Rajput, a former Merchant Navy official, with her lover Sahil Shukla's help. Both Muskaan and Sahil have been arrested and will be produced before the court on Wednesday.

The incident came to light after Saurabh's relatives approached police to report him missing. Investigation revealed the shocking details of the crime which saw Saurabh being chopped into 15 pieces after being fed sleeping pills. His remains were sealed inside a concrete-filled drum.

Love marriage gone awry

Police said Saurabh married Muskaan in 2016 against his family's wishes. He quit his job with Merchant Navy to be close to his wife. The couple moved out of Saurabh's ancestral home after issues cropped up. They also had a girl child.

However, the marriage soon went kaput after Saurabh found out Muskaan was having an affair with his friend Sahil. Saurabh decided to separate from her but then decided to reunite with her for their daughter. He rejoined the Merchant Navy in 2023 and was out of the country.

On February 24, he returned home to celebrate their six-year-old daughter's birthday. Muskaan, who had already decided to kill Saurabh, fed him sleeping pills.

SP City Ayush Vikram Singh told reporters that after Saurabh fell unconscious, Muskaan took Sahil's help to chop up the body and seal it inside a drum filled with wet cement. The plan was to dispose of the body later.

Muskaan and her lover Sahil then went to Manali, where they tied the knot. They spent 13 days in Manali and returned home only on Monday.

After returning, Muskaan and Sahil tried to dispose of the remains inside the drum but failed to do so. They called four labourers for the purpose, but even they couldn't lift the drum off the ground. They had arranged an e-autorickshaw to transport the remains, but the vehicle and the labourers left with the auto after they failed to lift the heavy drum.

Police later recovered the drum from their house.
