Hailing the decision to exempt income tax for those earning upto Rs 12 lakh annually, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said never since Independence such relief has been granted for the middle class in the country. Modi asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party will form government in the national capital after the Delhi Assembly polls.

Campaigning at RK Puram for the Delhi Assembly polls, the prime minister said the union budget is the guarantee of fulfilling 'Modi's guarantees' of empowering the poor, farmers, youth and women. “The middle class is saying that this is the most friendly budget for them in India's history. Never since Independence have those earning upto Rs 12 lakh have received such a relief,” Modi claimed.

Comparing the new tax regime with that during Jawaharlal Nehru’s and Indira Gandhi’s era, Modi said, “If someone had a salary of Rs 12 lakh at the time of Jawaharlal Nehru, one-fourth would have gone to tax; if it was Indira Gandhi’s regime today, Rs 10 lakh of your Rs 12 lakh would have gone to the government as tax.” He added even a decade ago, during the Congress regime, citizens had to pay Rs 2.6 lakh as tax for Rs 12 lakh income.

Accusing the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi of corruption, the prime minister said the people of Delhi have decided to elect the BJP government this time. “AAPda wasted 11 years in Delhi, the city will get double-engine government this time,” Modi asserted. Modi added those who looted public money will have to account for it.

“When Modi gives a guarantee, he puts his heart, mind and soul into fulfilling it,” Modi said. He added if voted to power, the BJP will not suspend any of the ongoing welfare schemes. He also asserted no jhuggi will be demolished in Delhi.

Addressing Purvanchal voters, Modi said they contribute hugely to the development of Delhi. “The leaders of 'AAPda' are sad because of announcements made for Bihar in the Union budget. Let them do negative politics, the BJP will continue to help the people of Purvanchal,” Modi said.

Referring to the recent resignations of AAP leaders from the party, Modi said, “Jhaadu ke tinke bikhar rahe hain' (the straws of the broom are scattering). They are aware people hate AAP.”

"You can note it down the BJP government will be formed in Delhi on February 8, and by March 8, International Women's Day, women will start receiving Rs 2,500,” the prime minister said.
