The hallway of a renowned private school in Ernakulam stays silent, but echoes of his avalanche of agony never wither. Mihir Ahammed, a vivacious 15-year-old with an ambition burning in his soul, took his own life on January 15. Rajna P.M, his mother, now fights an inconceivable battle to seek justice for her son she lost to unyielding bullying and ragging.

Mahir was lively and exuberant, his mother recollects. On a disastrous evening, Mihir returned home after school around 2.45pm. At 3.50pm, his lifeless body was lying beneath the apartment complex, Choice Paradise in Tripunithura, Kochi, his mother recounts in her statement published on social media. A life still budding, brimming with potential, had been ruthlessly snatched away from him.

In repercussion to the extreme loss, Mihir’s parents started trying to piece together the terror their child had gone through from friends, classmates, and social media messages, and it divulged a disturbing actuality. Mihir was the prey of relentless bullying at school. His harassers did not stop at words; they allegedly used this abuse as enjoyment and subjected him to degrading and cruel treatment.

Mihir was allegedly dragged into the washroom and forced to lick the toilet seat; they thrust his head into the flushing toilet on his last day, his mother alleged. His mother believed that this final act of brutality shoved him beyond the verge. But, the anguish did not end even after his death. A screenshot of horrid messages from his bullies have reportedly come to light, celebrating his death with racist slurs “F*** n****, he actually died".

Shocked by the iniquity, his friends created an Instagram page titled “Justice for Mihir," unveiling his sufferings; allegedly under pressure from the school, the page was deleted, which is suspected of silencing the voice to protect the reputation. When Rajna confronted the school with evidence, all they said was that they had referred it to the police. There was no apology or accountability, only bureaucratic coldness in the face of a grieving mother's suffering. She has also submitted a petition to the Child Commission, seeking an investigation into the alleged harassment her son faced from the vice principal.

Rajna expressed her anguish and indignation, saying she is committed to seeking justice for her son. “I am begging for justice. His death must not go in vain. Those who are responsible must face the full force of the law so that no other child suffers as my son did,” she wrote. She requested the authorities to act quickly to guarantee that no digital evidence is destroyed and that those responsible for their action and attempting to suppress the truth are prosecuted.

“I have complete faith in the legal system and am confident that justice will prevail,” she added.
