The Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified the monitoring of digital space to identify individuals involved in spreading harmful content, often operating anonymously on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, and X.
Around 150 social media handles suspected of disseminating extremist ideologies, fake news, inflammatory videos and manipulated images are under close surveillance.

Officials warned that the offenders would face strict legal action, besides offering counselling, skill development, and job opportunities to steer the younger generation away from such ideologies.
Police have also called for active public participation in preserving peace. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant, verify the authenticity of content before sharing it, and report any suspicious activities.

Law enforcement stressed that misinformation spreads rapidly and can have devastating effects, highlighting the need for collective responsibility in combating false narratives.
By combining punitive measures with developmental initiatives, the authorities aim to create a sense of stability and opportunity among the region’s youth.
Post Article 370, police have intensified crackdown against individuals using social media to post content deemed anti-national.
The police have also cautioned the media not to report unverified news that may lead to an undesirable situation.
In the absence of other avenues, social media in Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as an important platform for fun, entertainment, interactions, news and, promoting business. Political parties also used the digital space to further their agendas.
However, there have been cases where youth have been found posting content considered offensive. In some cases, the youth who posted such content were detained, counselled and released.
