Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested Mihir Shah, the main accused in the hit-and-run case, nearly 72 hours after the incident.

Mihir (24), son of Shiv Sena Eknath Shinde faction leader Rajesh Shah, allegedly rammed his BMW car into a two-wheeler, killing a woman and leaving her husband injured.

Mihir’s mother and sister have also been taken into custody as the investigators believe they helped him evade arrest. They have, however, not been named as accused in the case.

Police said Mihir’s father had also taken an active part in ensuring his son's escape and also had plans to tow away the offending vehicle.

Rajesh Shah and their family driver Rajrishi Bidawat have been arrested in the case. A Mumbai court remanded Rajesh Shah in one-day police custody while sending Bidawat to 14-day judicial custody. The politician was later granted bail.

The incident took place on Sunday morning when Mihir’s car knocked down Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and injured her husband Pradeep who were travelling on their two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Worli area.

Mumbai Police had formed 11 teams to nab Mihir and also put out a Look Out Circular (LOC) against him.
