Criticising the recent interim bail granted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Home Minister Amit Shah said he does not see the apex court's decision as a routine judgment. He stressed that many in the country believe that "special treatment" was given in Kejriwal's case.

In an interview with the news agency ANI, Shah said "I believe this is a clear contempt of the Supreme Court." Shah was replying to being asked about Kejriwal's campaigning for the INDIA bloc and his claim that he would not need to go back to jail if enough votes were cast in the party's favour.

"The SC has the right to interpret the law. I believe this was not a normal or routine judgment," he added.

He also pointed out that the judges who granted him bail should think about how their judgment is being used or misused.

When asked if Kejriwal's election campaign has become aggressive after his return from jail, Shah said that he is now stuck on another issue (referring to the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal). "Let him get free from that then let's see what happens," he added.

The SC had granted Kejriwal interim bail till June 1 in the wake of the Lok Sabha elections. He has been asked to return to jail on June 2.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the money laundering case and was granted bail on May 10.
