West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also in-charge of the home ministry, has failed to maintain the law and order in the state.

His remarks came in the wake of a bomb blast at Pandua in Hooghly district, in which a minor boy was killed and two other teenagers were injured. TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was scheduled to hold a rally in Pandua on Monday in support of party’s candidate from Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency, Rachana Banerjee.

“The standard procedure is to sanitise the place before a public rally takes place. This is a huge embarrassment for Mamata Banerjee that her police is failing to curb bombing incidents at places where Abhishek Banerjee is supposed to hold a rally,”said Majumdar at a press conference in Kolkata.

The 44-year-old BJP leader further alleged that TMC has become a safe haven for criminals. “Earlier we used to see country made arms and weapons, but now international weapons are being recovered,” he said.

Further talking about the BJP’s prospects and promises for the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, the outgoing Balurghat MP claimed that his party does not oppose the TMC government’s popular direct cash transfer scheme, Lakshmir Bhandar.

“We plan to rename the scheme as Annapurnar Bhandar and we will increase the monthly benefit three times.”

Majumdar criticized the Mamata Banerjee government for not allowing Ayushman Bharat in West Bengal. He asserted that if BJP returns to power, the Centre will include everyone above the age of 70 in the scheme.

“The state is supposed to bear 40 per cent of the cost. But we have decided that for people above the age of 70, the central government will provide 100 per cent benefits under Ayushman Bharat. Mamata Banerjee cannot stop it now,” he asserted.

The bombing incident has raised concerns among the local population.
