Tamil Nadu Police has formed three investigative teams to probe the death of a local Congress leader whose charred body was found in his farmland on Saturday.

K.B.K. Jeyakumar Dhanasingh (60), the Tirunelveli East District Congress president, had been missing for the last two days and his son J. Karuthaiah Jefrin had filed a police complaint.

Jeyakumar’s body was found in the garbage yard of his farm adjacent to his house at Karaichithupudur village under Uvari police limits.

According to reports, police have found copper wires around his limbs and they suspect his hands and legs might have tied with electric cables and the insulation of the cable might have melted when the body was set ablaze.

The body was removed to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College for autopsy.

It is not yet clear whether Jeyakumar was murdered or died by suicide. According to an NDTV report, police have recovered a dying declaration and they are investigating whether it was written by him.
