Responding to comments by Congress leader Supriya Shrinate, Bollywood actor and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha poll candidate Kangana Ranaut said every woman deserves dignity. Meanwhile, the Congress is promoting an old video clip of Ranaut in which she calls Hindi actor Urmila Matondkar a soft porn star.

Responding to presspersons, Ranaut said, “I am an actor. Irrespective of the profession, all women deserve their dignity. To sexualise, and make a derogatory comment on Mandi which is called Chhota Kashi by people from all across the world, where Rishi Parashar and Rishi Markandey performed penance, is saddening for all of us. I am now associated with the BJP. The party will take action," PTI reported.

Derogatory remarks were made against Ranaut from Congress leader Supriya Shrinate’s social media account after she was declared as BJP’s candidate contesting from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi. Shrinate disassociated herself from the comments and deleted it. The Congress leader said multiple persons handle her account and the remarks were published without her knowledge.

However, responding to Shrinate’s comments, Ranaut tweeted, “Dear Supriya ji In the last 20 years of my career as an artist I have played all kinds of women. We must free our daughters from the shackles of prejudices, we must rise above the curiosity about their body parts and above all we must refrain from using sex workers challenging lives or circumstances as some kind of abuse or slur...every woman deserves her dignity…”

Meanwhile, the Congress leader is promoting an old video clip of the actor in which she called Urmila Matondkar a soft porn star following her feud with the latter. In the old interview, Ranaut says, “I saw one very derogatory interview given by Urmila Matondkar. The way she was talking about me, pulling faces, making a mockery about my struggles, attacking me on the fact that I am trying to appease BJP for a ticket. One doesn’t have to be a genius to figure that for me it is not very difficult to get a ticket. Urmila is a soft porn star. She is not known for her acting for sure, what is she known for? For doing soft porn right. If she could get a ticket, why wouldn’t I get a ticket?"

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has written to the Election Commission, seeking action against Congress leaders Shrinate and H.S. Ahir, state joint co-ordinator of Kisan Congress for their derogatory comments against actress Kangana Ranaut. The NCW tweeted, “National Commission for Women is appalled by the disgraceful conduct of Ms. Supriya Shrinate and Mr. H.S. Ahir, who made lewd and derogatory remarks about @KanganaTeam on social media. Such behaviour is intolerable and goes against the dignity of women. @sharmarekha has sent a letter to the Election Commissioner of India demanding immediate and strict action against them. Let's uphold respect and dignity for all women.”
