The NIA detained a key suspect in connection with the Bengaluru cafe blast from Karnataka's Ballari on Wednesday, said TV reports.

The suspect was identified as Shabbir, who hails from Ballari's Cowl Bazaar. NIA suspects that he has knowlege about the explosion and took him to custody based on his travel history. An interrogation is underway.

The main suspect, whose CCTV images have been released, is still at large. The March 1 blast at the Rameshwaram Cafe in Brookfield, Bengaluru, had injured at least nine people. The IED blast occurred after the main suspect left a bag at the restaurant before walking away.

The development comes a week after the NIA detained a cloth merchant, from the same area in Ballari. NIA believes that both men are involved in plotting the blast.
