Upendra Singh Rawat couldn't court controversy at a more critical time. Shortly after being named in the first list of BJP candidate list for the upcoming general elections, the Lok Sabha MP was in the news over an obscene video that caught him in a compromised position. 

However, Upendra Singh Rawat pleaded innocence and maintained that he had nothing to do with the rigged video. Here are 5 latest developments surrounding the Barabanki Lok  Sabha MP:

1. The obscene video allegedly involving Upendra Singh Rawat appeared online on March 3, Sunday. Police sources claimed that the video contained intimate visuals. 

2. On Monday, the BJP MP who was trusted with the responsibility to defend the Barabanki seat said he would not contest any election till proven innocent.

3. In a Hindi post on X (formerly Twitter),  Upendra Singh Rawat claimed the viral video was generated using deepfake AI technology. He demanded an investigation into the matter.

4. A complaint in this regard was filed by the first-time MP's personal secretary Dinesh Chandra Rawat with the Kotwali police station. An FIR has been lodged against an unknown accused, police sources reportedly told media. 

5. The FIR claimed that the development is associated with the upcoming polls. People made the forged video public to tarnish the MP's name as it was confirmed that the incumbent leader was going to contest from Barabanki again. 

6. It was alleged in the FIR that some people have made public a doctored objectionable video of the MP to tarnish his image after he was declared a BJP candidate. 

7. "I got the party's ticket from Barabanki, my opponents did this act", Upendra Singh Rawat reportedly said. 

8. The 55-year-old leader is a law graduate, was fielded from Barabanki as the replacement of sitting MP Priyanka Singh Rawat. He was Zaidpur MLA when he managed to defeat Samajwadi candidate Ram Sagar Rawat by a margin of 1,09,97 votes to reach the Lower House.
