At least two killed as train hits several passengers in Jharkhand

At least two persons were killed after they were hit by a train at  Kalajharia railway station in Jharkhand’s Jamtara on Wednesday. Several others have been injured.

According to reports, the passengers who got down at the station from a train at the wrong side were hit by a local train coming on another line.

"Bodies of two persons have been recovered so far. Search operation is on and the toll might increase," Jamtara sub-division police officer (SDPO) M. Rahman said.

"Train no 12254 (Anga Express) passing between Vidyasagar-Kasitar stopped due to chain pulling at 7 pm. At 7.07 pm, two persons who were walking on the track were run over on the up line by MEMU train, at least two kilometres away from where the train stopped", the Eastern Railway said in a press statement.

It said a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
