The Union Ministry of Urban Development has issued a notice to former Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for not vacating her government bungalow.

Moitra, who was expelled from Lok Sabha over the cash-for-query allegations on December 8, has been asked to respond to the notice by January 16.

On Monday, the Directorate of Estates (DoE) had issued a similar notice to the TMC leader who had been asked to vacate the house by January 7 after her allotment was cancelled.

On January 4, the Delhi High Court asked the TMC leader to approach the DoE with a request for allowing her to continue to occupy the government accommodation allotted to her.

Justice Subramoniun Prasad noted that the rules permitted the authorities to allow a resident to overstay for up to six months on payment of certain charges in exceptional circumstances.

The court, however, said the DoE shall decide her case after applying its own mind.

Moitra was disqualified as an MP on December 8 on the recommendations of the parliament’s ethics committee which examined the cash-for-query allegations against the TMC leader.

Moitra is accused of taking bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani for asking questions in parliament targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani.

She is also accused of sharing her log-in details of the Lok Sabha account with Hiranandani.
