James Gunn's David Corenswet-fronted Superman follow-up Man of Tomorrow has found its main antagonist. The filmmaker has confirmed that he has found the ideal name to play Clark Kent's next nemesis, Brainiac. German actor Lars Eidinger has been cast in the role, as announced by Gunn in an Instagram post.
In his post, Gunn wrote, “In our worldwide search for Brainiac in ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ Lars Eidinger rose to the top. Welcome to the DCU, Lars.” This development seems to confirm that Kent and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) might finally team up to confront a common threat.
Who is Brainiac?
Created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, the extremely intelligent DC comic supervillain first made his appearance in #242 edition of Action Comics in 1958. He is known for his genius-level intellect, detached attitude characterised by emotionless reasoning, and a yearning to consume information. He is also a perfectionist. He has been known as a "Collector of cities" — shrinking them enough to fit them in bottles. He has the ability to evolve into different forms, including a godlike entity and an AI hive mind, among other things.
