In a shocking incident on New Year's morning in Ujjain, a woman shot her husband and brother-in-law dead and then walked to the nearby police station to surrender along with the country-made gun she used for the murders.
The incident occurred under Ingoriya police station in Badnagar of Ujjain district. Videos of the woman walking to the police station with a gun in hand also went viral.
The woman – Savita Kumaria (41)—was reportedly angry over some family dispute in which her husband Radheshyam (43) supported his elder brother Dheeraj (45) who stays in separate houses adjacent to each other, in-charge of Ingoriya police station Chandrika Singh Yadav told THE WEEK.
Yadav said according to eyewitnesses, Savita first shot Dheeraj who was performing puja in the courtyard of his house. The victim sustained injuries on his head and shoulder. The accused then came back to her own house to shoot Radheshyam over his ear while he was asleep.
Radheshyam died on the spot while Dheeraj breathed his last in Ujjain district hospital where he was taken.
While there were rumours that Savita had also shot at Dheeraj’s wife and son, Yadav told THE WEEK that any such incident was not confirmed but Savita is said to have fired in the air once.
The police station in-charge said details about the exact reason for the murders were still to come out as interrogation of Savita was still going on and a probe was also on in the case. He said it has come to the fore that Savita did not get along well with her husband too.
Radheshyam was also allegedly an alcoholic and would support Dheeraj over Savita in the matter of family dispute. It is also said Dheeraj was involved in the trading of illegal firearms and had police cases registered against him.
Savita and Radheshyam have three children – two daughters aged 22 and 21 and a 15-year-old son.
