Ending the year on the sweetest note, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi shared a sneak peak into the kitchen inorder to prepare the latter’s favourite--orange marmalade. The video of the mother-son duo picking fresh fruit from the kitchen garden and preparing the dish grabbed the attention of many in the social media platforms.
The video titled 'Mum, Memories and Marmalade' was posted on YouTube by Rahul Gandhi on Sunday.
In the video, along with the preparations there were chit-chats about their favourite foods, politics of food, and travels abroad. During the preparation, Rahul Gandhi is heard saying "if BJP wants to get the jam, they can get it too". In reply, Sonia Gandhi says that the BJP will throw it at them to which Rahul responds, "That's good, then we can pick it up again."
While stirring the pulp, Rahul states that the marmalade recipe is his sister Priyanka Gandhi's and is his mother's favourite jam.
Rahul Gandhi also goes on talking about the politics of food towards the end of the video.
Sonia Gandhi says that she got adjusted with the Indian food but initially it was difficult for her to deal with the spices. “When an Indian person goes abroad. I’m not talking about today because there are Indian restaurants everywhere, you cannot adjust to the foods in the UK or elsewhere. Similarly, when I came here, it took me time to adjust to the Indian flavours, especially the chillies,” she says.
Sonia Gandhi also says that now when she goes abroad, the first thing she wants to have is "'arhar ki daal' and rice".
To the question asked, "What's the one thing that annoys you about Rahul?" Sonia says, "He's stubborn, as I am." While she also adds that he is affectionate and takes care of her.
