JSW chief Sajjan Jindal booked on charges of raping Mumbai woman

Police denied the woman's claims that they delayed FIR registration

An FIR registered by the Mumbai Police has accused Sajjan Jindal, the Chairman and Managing Director of JSW Group, of rape.

The complaint lodged by a Mumbai-based woman alleges that the incident occurred on January 24, 2022, at a penthouse in Jindal’s offices in Bandra Kurla Complex.

Based on the complaint, Jindal was slapped with charges including IPC 376 (rape), IPC 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and IPC 503 (criminal intimidation).

The complainant claimed that she first met the businessman on October 8, 2021, in Dubai, adding that they exchanged phone numbers. She alleged that they met a few more times, following which the accused made sexual advances towards her multiple times despite her not giving consent. The woman also alleged that on January 24, 2022, the accused raped her at the penthouse of a building in Bandra Kurla Complex.

The latest FIR, which was registered on December 13, claims that woman she went to police on February 16 to file a complaint but they allegedly took a statement without giving her a copy and did not file an FIR, CNBC quoted the woman as saying.

Months later on December 5, she filed a writ petition against the police in Bombay High Court. The police then registered an FIR on December 14 as ordered by the court.

However, the police have dismissed that they delayed registering the FIR. Jindal is yet to respond to the allegations raised by the woman.
