A day after the Congress stormed to power in Telangana, the newly-elected Congress MLAs will meet in Hyderabad on Monday to elect their Legislature Party Leader. Anumula Revanth Reddy, the PCC president who led the Congress to victory, is the most likely choice to be the Chief Minister.

The meeting will be attended by senior leaders and AICC observers.

The delegation of Congress leaders had met Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and staked claim to form the government in the state on Sunday itself. The Congress wrested power from the BRS after clinching 64 seats in the 119-seat assembly.

Meanwhile, local reports quoted party sources who said a formal swearing-in ceremony with a couple of leaders would be conducted on Monday evening. A cabinet expansion and a public meeting are likely on December 9.

A statement by the Telangana police also said that Reddy has asked the local police to make security arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief minister on either December 4 or December 9.

Reddy won from the Kodangal constituency with a margin of over 32,000 votes defeating his nearest BRS rival Patnam Narender Reddy. The Congress leader however lost from Kamareddy.

Reddy reportedly asked Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar on Sunday, to make security arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony. However, Anjani Kumar was later removed from the post for violating the Model Code of Conduct for meeting Reddy to congratulate him before the results were formally announced.

Several chief ministers, former chief ministers and senior leaders from the national capital are expected to attend the ceremony, Reddy told the police. The event is likely to take place in Hyderabad's LB Stadium.

The near 10-year-old rule of the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) came to an end on Sunday, even as Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao tendered resignation from his post, which was accepted by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. Rao was asked to continue in office till the formation of the new government.
