Reacting to his party's electoral performance in three states—Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan—in the Hindi heartland, on Sunday, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said he "humbly accept the mandate" and added that the battle of ideology will continue.

The party is heading towards defeat in three of the four states where counting is underway, with the only consolation for the party being the victory in Telangana.

"I am very thankful to the people of Telangana - we will definitely fulfill the promise of making Prajalu Telangana," Gandhi wrote in the social media platform X.

He thanked the workers of the party for their hard work and support.

Party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the people of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh have assigned the role of opposition to the Congress Party. The public's decision is on the horizon, she added.

In a post in X, the Congress leader said the people of Telangana scripted history by giving the electoral mandate to the Congress. "This is the victory of the people of Telangana. This is the victory of the people of the state and every worker of the Congress Party."

Thanking the people of Telangana for the victory, she said the Congress is committed to ensuring peace, prosperity and progress in the state.
