Abigel Sara Reji: Hunt for abductors of Kerala girl, 6, intensified; sketches released

Abigel Sara Reji Police have released sketches of two suspects who allegedly abducted six-year-old Abigel Sara Reji | Manorama Online

Kerala police have intensified the hunt for the abductors of Abigel Sara Reji, 6, who was found abandoned at a ground in Kollam after being kidnapped on Monday evening.

Reports say police have no strong leads about the abductors' whereabouts. However, police reportedly got information that the abductors might abandon the child in Kollam town amid statewide vehicle checks and police patrol. 

Police on Wednrsday released the sketch of a female suspect drawn based on descriptions given by a woman who filed a complaint regarding a mysterious woman who came to her house. The complainant, Chithra, said the woman who was watching her children fled on a bike with a man. The incident reportedly happened a few hours before Abigel was abducted.

Sketch of a male suspect was released on Tuesday. The child is yet identify any of suspects after she was shown 30 sketches, reported Manorama Online. 

ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar, who is leading the investigation, said a woman from Paravoor and a man from Kundara are the main suspects, adding that police have not ruled out the possibility of involvement of Oyoor natives in the kidnapping. More police officials from Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts have joined the probe team.

Earlier, police were pursuings leads on a gang of two men and a woman based on CCTV footage and witness accounts.

The gang brought Abigel to Kollam in a blue car. It should be noted that the suspects abducted the girl in a white car. Both cars are yet to be recovered. Other members of the gang dropped the woman and Abigel near the KSRTC bus stand in Kollam, following which she brougt the child to Ashramam Maidanam in a autorickshaw. 

The girl who was rescued on Tuesday after she was found by a group of students who said a woman was with the child when they first spotted her at the ground, reported the news outlet. "A woman accompanied the child to Ashramam Maidanam. But she left the child there and did not return. This made me suspicious," a student who spotted the child told Manorama Online.

Abigel was abducted from Oyur in Kollam district on Monday at 4.30 pm when she was heading to her tuition class with her eight-year-old brother. When the boy tried to stop the abductors, they pushed him aside and whisked away the girl in the car. He suffered knee injuries while trying to rescue his little sister. The boy thanked everyone for praying and rescuing his sibling.
