Four Army personnel, including two captains, were killed during an encounter between security forces and militants at Bajimaal forests in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The deceased captains were identified as Captain M.V. Pranjal and Captain Shubham of 9Para (special forces).

A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and a soldier have also lost their lives while a major suffered injuries in the operation.

The special forces had gone to the forests to evacuate Captain Pranjal but came under heavy fire from the militants.

The encounter started at 9 am after security forces launched a search operation in the area.

The militants appear to be a freshly infiltrated group from across the Line of Control (LoC).

On Friday, a militant was killed in a operation by J&K Police and security forces in Budhal area in Rajouri and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.

Rajouri and Poonch have witnessed increased militant attacks on security forces in which nearly 30 security forces personnel have been killed in the last two years.

The militants are using the Pir Pranjal mountain range that separates Rajouri and Poonch to move between the two regions and stage attacks on security forces.
