"Jailer 2" has delivered a spectacular opening at the box office, earning ₹125.25 crore worldwide on its first day. The film has fared better compared to its predecessor, "Jailer" (2023), across all major box office categories.
Strong collections in India and overseas markets have helped the Rajinikanth-starrer achieve one of the biggest opening days of the superstar’s career.
The sequel has also comfortably outperformed the first "Jailer" in domestic net collections. The original film earned ₹48.35 crore net in India and ₹96.36 crore worldwide on its opening day. This represents an increase of around 23.5% in domestic net collections and approximately 30% in worldwide gross.
According to box office data tracked by Sacnilk, "Jailer 2" collected ₹59.70 crore net in India from 16,599 shows. Its domestic gross stood at ₹70.25 crore, while overseas markets contributed an impressive ₹55 crore. Together, these figures brought its worldwide opening-day gross to ₹125.25 crore.
Tamil audiences contributed the largest share of the film’s domestic earnings. The Tamil version collected ₹43.35 crore from 9,326 shows. The Telugu version added ₹12.50 crore from 2,792 shows, showing strong support from Telugu-speaking audiences.
The Hindi version earned ₹3.50 crore from 4,371 shows, while the Kannada version collected ₹35 lakh from 110 shows. Despite differences in performance across languages, the film recorded an impressive overall opening.
The sequel, again directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, also improved its performance in every major language market. Tamil collections increased from ₹37.60 crore to ₹43.35 crore, while Telugu earnings rose from ₹10.20 crore to ₹12.50 crore. Hindi collections grew from ₹35 lakh to ₹3.50 crore, and Kannada earnings increased from ₹20 lakh to ₹35 lakh.
The number of tracked shows also rose sharply, from 7,461 for the first film to 16,599 for the sequel.
Second-highest worldwide opening for Rajinikanth
Although "Jailer 2" delivered a massive opening, it did not beat "Coolie" (2025), which remains Rajinikanth’s biggest worldwide opener. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, "Coolie" earned ₹65 crore net in India and ₹151.10 crore worldwide on its first day.
"Jailer 2" also narrowly missed "2.0" (2018) in domestic net collections. The science-fiction film collected ₹60.25 crore net in India, compared with the sequel’s ₹59.70 crore. However, "Jailer 2" performed better worldwide, surpassing the reported opening gross of "2.0" (₹115 crore).
Reports suggest that disagreements over digital release windows involving major multiplex chains, including PVR INOX, affected the film’s Hindi release in northern India. This may have limited its potential to achieve an even bigger opening.
