Security forces foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) at Uri in Baramulla on Wednesday and neutralised two militants.

The incident occurred when a group of militants attempted to cross the LoC, taking advantage of low visibility and adverse weather conditions, according to sources.

The soldiers engaged the militants in a firefight, resulting in the death of the two militants.

With this, the number of militants killed at the LoC has risen to 42 this year. Since September 17, security forces have thwarted six infiltration attempts in various areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Two incidents occurred in Reasi's Chassana area, one in the Narla area of Rajouri, and the remaining three in North Kashmir's Uri, Baramulla, and Kupwara.

On September 16, three militants were killed near the LoC at Hathlanga, Uri, in Baramulla. On October 5, five militants were killed in an encounter with security forces during an infiltration attempt at Machil, Kupwara.

One of the reasons for the spurt in infiltration is the onset of winter, during which the passes along the LoC are blocked by snow.
