Jammu: BSF jawan killed in third unprovoked ceasefire violation in 24 days along IB

It is the sixth overall violation since a ceasefire deal was signed in February 2021

A BSF jawan who suffered injuries in unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan Rangers along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir died at a hospital on Thursday morning, according to officials.

The unprovoked firing targeting border outposts occurred in Ramgarh sector of Samba district along the IB.

This was the third such ceasefire violation in the past 24 days in the Jammu border and the sixth overall since a ceasefire deal was inked on February 25, 2021.

The BSF jawan who was rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to the GMC Hospital in Jammu succumbed to his injuries, PTI quoted an official as saying.

"During night intervening 8/9 Nov 2023, Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing in Ramgarh area which was befittingly responded to by BSF troops," the BSF stated.

Two similar violations were reported in October. Two BSF personnel and a woman were injured in heavy firing and shelling that lasted for about seven hours on October 28.

A week before that, two other BSF jawans were also injured in a firing in the Arnia sector on October 17.
