Hundreds of students staged a protest on the campus of Indian Institute of Technology at Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi on Thursday after a female student alleged that she was molested by three unidentified men.

As per the student’s complaint, the accused forcibly kissed her, took off her clothes and recorded a video.

The woman said she was walking with her male friend around 1.30 am when three men on a motorcycle approached them from behind.

“They parked their motorcycle and separated my friend and me. They shut my mouth tightly and took me to a corner, kissed me forcibly, and took off all my clothes, and recorded photos and videos. When I shouted for help, they threatened to kill me,” the complaint said, adding that the accused men let her go after 15 minutes.

Based on her complaint, a first information report has been registered under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code and under provisions of the IT Act at Lanka police station, police said.

The protesting students alleged outside elements were involved in the incident and demanded that outsiders be banned from entering the campus.
