Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called the women’s reservation law a path-breaking legislative effort the impact of which will be felt in the country over the “next thousand years”. Addressing a ‘Parivartan Maha Sankalp Rally’ at Bilaspur in poll-bound Chhattisgarh, Modi accused the ruling Congress of dividing women on the lines of caste.

"Our government fulfilled one more promise that we had made to the people. Under the women's reservation law, 33 per cent of seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures would now be set aside for women. Nari Shakti Adhiniyam is now a reality under the BJP rule," Modi was quoted as saying by ANI.

Congress has raised concerns over the non-provision of an OBC sub quota within the women’s reservation. The prime minister, however, said the grand old party is worried about the electoral fallout as the legislation has brought unity among women in the country.

"The Congress and its allies are rattled and upset since this legislation secured passage in both Houses of Parliament. They are only worried about the electoral fallout, fearing that the women will shower their blessings on Modi. Afraid of the oneness and awareness that this law has brought about among our women, the opposition has now resorted to dividing them on the lines of caste. This is nothing but a poll gimmick," he said.

‘No more tolerance to atrocities’

Modi said people of Chhattisgarh has decided not to tolerate the “atrocities” perpetrated on them by the Congress government.

"A change is in the air in Chhattisgarh. The excitement that I sense among the people itself demonstrates their desire to vote for change. The people of Chhattisgarh have decided not to tolerate the atrocities perpetrated on them by this Congress government," he said.

Addressing the gathering, Modi further promised to fulfill people’s dreams and aspirations if BJP is voted to power in the state.

“No matter how much we try to meet the expectations of the people from the Centre, the Congress government here scuttles all our efforts in this direction," he aalleged.
