In a shocking incident, a minor girl who was brutally raped leading to her private parts being damaged, kept roaming around residential colonies in Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh for over two hours in half-naked and blood soaked condition on Monday looking for help in vain.

The girl, about 12 years old, was later found in a dazed state in the evening and referred to Indore for treatment given the serious nature of her injuries. Her condition is said to be stable. Police have detained a suspect and are questioning him, but there have been no formal arrests in the case yet.

Superintendent of police (SP) of Ujjain, Sachin Sharma told The Week that an FIR was registered on the basis of medical reports that confirmed injuries to her private parts. “The girl is not able to give any information about her place of origin or about her parents. We have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) and are conducting the probe on the basis of technical evidence. Going by the dialect she is speaking, the girl seems to be from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh,” the SP said.

There had been reports that the girl had said that her mother, too, was molested/raped, but Sharma told The Week that the survivor had merely said that her mother had gone away and her statement was misinterpreted.

The most shocking aspect of the incident is that the survivor was caught on CCTV cameras roaming around the residential colonies of Sanvrakhedi Simhastha bypass in a blood-soaked condition for around two-and-half-hours, apparently seeking help. However, no one came forward to help her or inform the police. In one of the footage, she is seen approaching a man standing near the gate of a house, but being turned away. In another grab, she was seen talking to an old man very early on Monday morning. The old man reportedly told the police that she just told him she was being followed and hurried away.

Going by the CCTV recordings, the girl roamed around on Sanvrakhedi Road, Tirupati Dreams, Hatkeshwar Vihar colony, Chintaman Road and walked as much as 8km in the injured condition, sources said.

The girl was found in a semi-conscious condition near Dandi Ashram on Badnagar road. Here, a priest found her, covered her up and informed the police. She was then sent to the district hospital for treatment, from where she was referred to Indore, sources said. The SP said that now her condition was stable.

Congress attacks govt, CM

The Madhya Pradesh Congress has launched a vicious attack on the BJP government and chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the heinous incident. Madhya Pradesh in-charge Randeep Surjewala likened the incident to infamous ‘Nirbhaya case’ in Delhi and party state chief Kamal Nath demanded harshest punishment for the perpetrators and compensation of Rs 1 crore for the girl.

“It is heart-wrenching to see a case of extremely cruel rape of a small girl in Ujjain. The kind of rape that happened to a 12 year old daughter and the way she ran around in many areas of the city in a semi-nude state and then fell unconscious on the road, puts humanity to shame. Such a heinous incident is a blemish on the administration and society,” Nath posed on social media platform X.

He further said “I want to know from the Chief Minister whether you will just keep fighting elections and making false announcements… Despite having a Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh has become without a Chief Minister. The criminals are unbridled and the public is troubled.”

Quoting a newspaper report, Surjewala posted “Under the ineffective BJP government, near the police station, a 12 year old girl becomes a victim of "Nirbhaya" like brutality! Despite facing cruelty, the girl, drenched in blood, kept wandering on the streets in a semi-nude condition for two and a half hours. But the police of the Shivraj government and the entire government attack kept sleeping! The girl has also told about something "wrong" with her mother, but the police still have no clue about it! This heart-wrenching incident is once again going to bring shame to Madhya Pradesh and the entire country. But in case of crimes against women, CM Shivraj (Singh Chouhan) and the BJP government, who have made Madhya Pradesh the most unsafe state in the country, have nothing for daughters except false promises and fake claims. Shame on you, Shivraj ji.”

Reacting to the incident, BJP state president, V.D. Sharma said that the incident was most unfortunate. “The criminals will get the death sentence. They will not be spared in any condition. There will be strictest action taken and the criminals will not be able to get away,” he told media persons.
