With days left for the G20 Summit, which will see delegates including 29 heads of state attending it, the authorities have introduced multiple curbs, including traffic restrictions, as part of the security arrangement.

Besides introducing curbs on roads from/to the airport, railway stations, or bus terminals, the Delhi Police has asked the Delhi Metro to close the gates of its stations that open towards VVIPs' place of stay and routes, and the summit's venue.

An official communication between police and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said gates of more than 20 metro stations, including three of Khan Market, two of Moti Bagh and five of ITO, are "required" to be closed to strengthen the security matrix from September 8 to September 10.

"As you are aware the G20 Summit-2023 is around the corner and we are making all possible efforts to enhance the security matrix. Hence, in order to maintain foolproof security arrangements during the upcoming summit, it is required to ensure that the gate numbers of metro stations that open towards the VVIPs route/venue of summit/place of stay may be closed from September 8 to 10," the letter stated.

Besides, the DMRC officials have to inform if any gate-closing request is received from any deputy commissioners of police or the police headquarters or if circumstances warrant. This has the approval of the "special commissioner of police/vigilance and the public transport safety division, Delhi", the letter stated.

Meanwhile, offices in Delhi and adjoining areas of Noida and Gurugram have facilitated work-from-home arrangements for their employees during the G20 weekend.

All private and government offices in Delhi will remain closed on September 8-10, while banks and commercial establishments, including markets, in the New Delhi district will be shut during these three days.

Accordingly, companies have announced flexible work measures during the G20 weekend. "In view of the Delhi government's traffic advisory around the G20 summit from 8th to 10th September, we understand the potential challenges our Delhi-based employees might face in their daily commute.

"Considering the same, we have already announced the flexibility to work from home during the period," Noida-based NIIT Limited HR Head Mita Brahma said.
