IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall in Delhi

The heavy spell of rain grip Delhi on Saturday morning leaving many parts of the national capital inundated. Severe waterlogging in many areas in the city had led to traffic congestion.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rains for the national capital on Saturday. Delhi is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, it said.

Meanwhile, the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre said "Light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Delhi, NCR (Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Faridabad) Rewari, Bawal, Nuh (Haryana), Hapur, Gulaoti, Siyana, Bulandshahar (UP)."

Adjoining areas of Delhi (Burari, Badili, Model Town, Karawal Nagar, Azadpur, Delhi University, Civil Lines, Tughlakabad, Ayanagar, Deramandi), Noida, Dadri and Ghaziabad is expected to receive rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms.

According to IMD, the maximum and minimum temparatures for Saturday are expected to settle around 34 and 26 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, the National Highway 5 near Chaura in Himachal Pradesh is blocked due to landslide in the area. The authorities are taking measures to make the road clear and resume the traffic along the route.

In the wake of the heavy rains, Jaipur Police had issued alert and advised people to take Dausa Expressway to travel from the Delhi.

Heavy rains had led to massive traffic jams in the national highway (NH-48) especially in Kotpuli and Shahpura. Even flyover constructions along the Jaipur-Delhi route is obstructed with the rains and causing traffic congestion.

On Friday, Civil Lines, Laxmi Nagar and Lajpat Nagar received rainfall and parts of the city. Jasola, Okhla also saw overcast skies with the maximum temparature settling at 34.3 degree Celsius.

Waterlogging issues due to heavy rains were faced by many states including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.
