Monsoon: Flood-like situation in Gujarat; heavy rains predicted in next 4-5 days

The recent heavy rains has left many low-lying areas water-logged in Gujarat creating a flood-like situation. Reportedly, regions including Kutch, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Navsari was severely affected due to flash floods.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was deployed for all necessary relief and rescue operations.

According to State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), at least nine people in the last two days in rain-related incidents in Gujarat.

Union Minister Amit Shah reviewed the situation and spoke to Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel. He assured Centre's all help. 

"Due to the heavy rains in Gujarat, the government is fully engaged in providing all possible help to the people affected by the flood-like situation in many places. I talked to the Chief Minister Shri @Bhupendrapbjp ji and inquired about the situation. NDRF and SDRF teams and local administration are engaged in helping people in these areas. The Central Government and the State Government are standing with the people in this difficult time," said Shah in a tweet in Hindi. 

India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted light to moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours in Gujarat.

Meanwhile, IMD on Sunday predicted 'heavy to very heavy' rainfall across India including Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and Mumbai.

A significant warning during the next five days across the country, as active monsoon season is expected heavy rains in many places.

IMD predicted light rain in Delhi till July 6. "A yellow alert is in place for moderate rainfall on July 5 and 6. Before that, most places will receive drizzle to light rain," an official was quoted by The Hindustan Times.

Till July 6, Uttarakhand is expected to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall till July 6. Due to heavy rains, the Badrinath highway in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district has been shut for the last 13 hours at Lambagad and Khachada drains. The NHAI is working to reopen the roads as quickly as possible. 

The eastern region of Uttar Pradesh will experience heavy rainfall from July 4-6, while the western UP is likely to witness isolated heavy rainfall on July 5 and 6.

Widespread rainfall is predicted across central India for the next five days. Chances of isolated heavy rainfall are high in Chhattisgarh till July 6.

East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are likely to encounter isolated heavy rainfall on July 5 and 6, IMD added. 

Andra Pradesh and south Karnataka is likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall from July 3-6. For the next five days, heavy rains is expected to lash in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala as well.
