Over 10 dead, several injured after consuming spurious liquor in TN

In two separate incidents in Tamil Nadu, at least 12 people died after consuming alleged spurious liquor. The incident occurred on Saturday night at Ekkiyarkuppam, Marakanam near Villupuram.

The two incidents occurred in Villupuram district and Chengalpattu district.

According to officials, over 30 people have been admitted to hospital.

Reportedly, two accused have been arrested for supplying illicit liquor.

People were hospitalised with complaints of vomiting, eye irritation, and dizziness in two separate incidents that occurred at Villupuram and Chengalpattu districts, said N. Kannan, IG, North Zone.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 for those who were undergoing treatment.

On Sunday Stalin had said that four police personnel were suspended in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, AIADMK general secretary and leader of opposition K. Palaniswami blamed the Stalin government for its 'inefficiency'. He said that his party-led 10 year rule and there was no place for illicit liquor in the state."Steps should be at least taken now against illicit liquor," he said.
