In a major accident, the roof of an ancient large well situated in a temple collapsed on Thursday during the Ram Navami festival. At least 25 people are feared to have fallen inside. The incident took place during the Ram Navami celebrations at the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple in the Patel Nagar area

According to officials, rescue operations have been launched to save those trapped.

An eyewitness said that a large number of people had gathered on the roof of the ancient bavdi and it caved in as it was unable to bear the load.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that “Extremely pained by the mishap in Indore. Spoke to CM @ChouhanShivraj Ji and took an update on the situation. The State Government is spearheading rescue and relief work at a quick pace. My prayers with all those affected and their families.”

"It's an unfortunate incident. A rescue operation is underway. 10 people were rescued safely while nine are still trapped and will be rescued. Efforts are underway to rescue other people," said the statement released by CMO, reported ANI.

The incident took place around 12 pm noon when the devotees were offering prayers during a hawan at the temple.
