India will continue to take all necessary measures to bring rabid Islamic scholar Zakir Naik, who is facing charges of money laundering and hate speech, to face justice in India the ministry of external affairs reiterated.

Naik fled India in 2016 and moved to Malaysia. According to media reports, he is expected to be in Oman for delivering two religious lectures in the country on the topics—'The Quran a Global Necessity' and 'Prophet Muhammad A Mercy to Humankind'.

MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, when asked about the preacher's visit to Oman and the possibility of extraditing him to India, said “Zakir Naik is an accused in numerous cases in India. He is a fugitive from justice. We have taken up the matter with the government of Oman and Oman authorities,” reports news agency ANI.

Bagchi said he needs to confirm if Oman has an extradition treaty with Oman.

“As regards the extradition part, I will check on this. I think the list of countries we have an extradition treaty with is already in the public domain. Oman is not on the list. However, I do need to reconfirm," the MEA spokesperson has been quoted as saying.
