Just after around 2,000 protesters waving Khalistan flags descended upon the Indian High Commission in London, a group of protestors held a demonstration in front of the Indian Consulate in San Francisco on Wednesday. However, there was a tight security presence of the San Francisco Police Department.

Unlike on Sunday, which witnessed violent disorder, the road leading to the consulate was heavily barricaded and a posse of police personnel stood guard, patrolling the area.

The Indian Consulate in San Francisco also thanked the enforcement agencies for securing the premises. "Thank you @SFPDChief for the assurances. Met Chief Scott to discuss the attack on @CGISFO Chancery building on March 19 and request to raise the level of protection to the Consulate premises and personnel," Consul General of India at San Francisco Ambassador Nagendra Prasad tweeted on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the protesters chanted pro-Khalistan slogans and reportedly came from different parts of the Bay area. The organisers also made anti-India speeches both in English and Punjabi, lashing out at the Punjab Police, for alleged human rights violations.

The protestors alleged that Indian media were calling them fringe elements backed by Pakistan’s spy agency ISI. "There have been flyers circulating on social media and it’s the youth that’s at the forefront of protests like these," a pro-Khalistan youth told ANI.

The Punjab Police have questioned the wife of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh, whose name allegedly cropped up in connection with the sourcing of foreign funds for the activities of Waris Punjab De.

Kirendeep Kaur, a UK-based NRI, was questioned by the police team which arrived at his residence in Jallupur Khera, Singh's native village in Amritsar, on Wednesday. The police team is said to have quizzed both Kirendeep and Amritpal's mother Balwinder Kaur.

Kirendeep and Amritpal Singh got married in February at a modest gathering. Kirendeep, who used to live in the UK, reportedly shifted to India after the wedding.

Meanwhile, new footage of the Khalistan sympathiser has emerged showing him on a motorised cart with his bike and the person who rode it. It was not clear whether the bike ran out of fuel or developed some fault. The bike was recovered by the police on Wednesday near a canal in Jalandhar.

Videos sourced by the police on Tuesday had shown Amritpal with his close aid Papalpreet riding a motorcycle. Police said they used link roads to avoid the police gaze.
