In a shocking incident reported in Assam, a woman allegedly killed her husband and mother-in-law, chopped their bodies into pieces and kept them inside a refrigerator at her home for three days before dumping them at Cherrapunji in neighbouring Meghalaya with the help of her paramour.
Police have arrested the woman identified as Vadana Kalita, her lover Arup Deka and a friend Dhanjit Deka. The husband and mother-in-law were identified as Amarendra De and Shankari De.
According to police, the crime took place in August-September last year. "We traced the bodies and recovered some parts from Meghalaya yesterday (Sunday). Our operations are on to find the bodies or all body parts of the two deceased," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Diganta Kumar Choudhury told news agency PTI.
According to police, Vadana had filed a missing complaint about her husband and mother-in-law in September and an investigation was started. After a few days, Amarendra's cousin lodged another missing complaint which raised doubts about the woman.
Both the cases were registered at Noonmati police station. The investigators claimed that the twin murders took place at two different houses in Chandmari and Narengi areas in Guwahati.
Meanwhile, Vandana's father told media that she had not disclosed to him anything about the disappearance of her husband and mother-in-law.
“Shoot her (Vandana) if she has committed the crime. I don’t want such a daughter. I would have nothing to do with her if she really killed her husband and mother-in-law,” he was quoted as saying by a local news portal.
The case bears striking similarities to the Shraddha Walker murder case in which the accused, Aftab Amin Poonawala, killed her live-in partner, chopped her body into over 35 pieces and kept them in a refrigerator for several weeks before dumping them in a forest area in South Delhi.
